PlayStation Vita had a fairly positive showing at E3 this year, and developers seem to be lining up to support the new portable, which will only cost $249 for the non-3G version. During our conversation with Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price, IndustryGamers asked the man behind Resistance and Ratchet & Clank what he thought of Sony's newest device.
"Certainly, we’ve seen Insomniac’s IP we’ve created come out on portable platforms - Ratchet and Resistance. So there’s always an opportunity there. I did get a chance to check out the Vita and it’s really cool. It's a pretty slick platform," he said.
We followed up and asked Price whether Sony's Vita can reach a higher level of success worldwide than the PSP, which did well in Japan but has seen its fair share of struggles in North America. Price seemed optimistic.
"Well, there are 2 things that I think are positive. One is the piracy should not be as much of an issue, and it was a real problem for the PSP. The second thing is they’ve already got some really good looking titles that are on the Vita, Uncharted being a great one," he said. "And so with great, killer applications that take advantage of the Vita’s back screen and front screen, it’s a pretty cool proposition - especially with the price, it’s a great proposition for gamers."
Vita, with its dual analogs, would probably be a great fit for Insomniac's Resistance franchise, and indeed, developer Nihilistic is working on a version of the game for the portable.
