PlayStation Vita 3G Already Seeing Price Cuts In Japan

Posted January 4, 2012 by M.H. Williams

So the sales of the PlayStation Vita were worse than expected for its second week on the market, while Nintendo’s 3DS rode the wave of success.  While gamers have taken a decent shine to the WiFi model of the Vita, the 3G model has been dead weight for retailers.  So some retailers have taken it upon themselves to shift some 3G units by discounting them by as much as 20 percent. 3G units are showing up at ¥24,999 ($325.76) instead of the launch price of ¥29,980 ($390.67).

Perhaps Sony should be rethinking the launch of the 3G unit in North America and Europe?  An adjustment of shipment numbers to favor the WiFi-only unit could be a good idea.
