Sony Computer Entertainment head honcho Kaz Hirai has told the Wall Street Journal that Sony did not see an overwhelming number of cancellations in the wake of the PSN hack. Hirai said only “a very small percentage” of calls to Sony’s PlayStation call centers involved customers looking to cancel their accounts.
"We have done everything possible and reasonable to make sure that a system is secure from attack," Hirai reaffirmed.
Sony CEO Howard Stringer backed his heir apparent’s handling of the situation in his comments. “If anything happened in this period that was positive, Kaz demonstrated coolness and leadership and reliability absent of disagreement and dissidence that was very impressive,” he said.
Hirai did note that it was too early to see if users were done with the service. It’s entirely possible that some may be too busy playing on a rival’s console to cancel their accounts.
