Playdom is not one to take it slow. The social game developer is already at the forefront of a booming market, and they're looking to capitalize on the lead. Today Playdom announced the acquisition of Hive7, a privately-held social gaming company. Hive7 joins Playdom's other four acquisitions in the last four months, as the company seeks to broaden its portfolio and expand to international markets.
"Our entire team is excited about joining forces with Playdom," said Hive7 CEO Max Skibinsky. "Gaining access to Playdom's industry knowledge and resources represents a unique opportunity for our studio to operate on an entirely new scale."
"We have moved our development studio into Playdom's Mountain View office and are hard at work on our next title. We will continue to deliver enjoyable and engaging games to Playdom's much larger player base," said Dave Holt, COO of Hive7.
Hive7 was founded in 2005 and focuses on casual games for Facebook and other social networks. The developer is best known for Knighthood, a medieval combat title. The company's other titles Youtopia, Kick-Off, and Sindicate are available on a wide range of social neworks.
"We welcome Hive7's employees and contractors to our family," said John Pleasants, Playdom CEO. "Our studio structure enables us to add stand-alone development start-ups like Hive7 to our portfolio without disrupting the cohesion and collegiality that made it such a special place to work. By integrating with our innovative central services and business intelligence functions, Hive7 will be positioned to develop deeper and more compelling games."
