Penny Arcade has signed with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and Reed Exhibitions to guarantee that PAX East will be held in Boston for the next three years. The agreement will bring the Seattle-based show back to the east coast.
PAX East drew nearly 60,000 attendees at the first show last year, selling out for the entirety of the three-day exhibition. Open to the public, the show attracted a myriad of consumers, publishers and developers to promote the gaming lifestyle.
Creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik have been an instrumental part of the gaming culture. GDC 2010 honored the pair with Ambassador Awards, celebrating the commitment of “helping the game industry advance to a better place.” The two are also responsible for starting a major gaming oriented charity, Child’s Play.
The exhibition was started to accommodate the ever-growing fan base of the popular Penny Arcade webcomic. PAX East will move to an even larger venue in 2011 and expectations are that the show will sell out yet again while breaking the 60,000-attendee mark.
