PC Gaming Revenue at $13.1 Billion in 2009

Posted March 10, 2010 by David Radd

PC Gaming Alliance (PCGA) today revealed its 2009 Horizons Report. One of the primary findings of the worldwide PC gaming industry was that revenue from PC games was $13.1 billion in 2009, up 3 percent from 2008; this total not only includes retail (which has been declining in recent years for PC) but also online ads and gaming and digital distribution.

"The most notable trend in recent years has been the movement to digital distribution and payment for subscriptions, and the growing popularity with consumers of online games as a service," said Randy Stude, PCGA president and Intel director. "In 2009 we saw North America and Europe experience a rapid uptake in purchasing virtual items. This model is what drove growth in Asia and we think it is just starting to come to Western markets."

The study found that subscription titles diminished over the past year due to a lack of participation for older products and lack of major releases. Boxed retail releases saw the biggest downturn and now account for less than 20 percent of all revenue. While most European and North American countries saw revenue declines, Asia Pacific continued to expand rapidly and free-to-play and social network games are growing worldwide.

"In our surveys of PC gamers in North America and Europe we found that over 70% indicate they have bought a full game online. Furthermore, over 50 percent indicate that they have bought a virtual item," said DFC Analyst David Cole. "This is very positive because, when done successfully, companies in Asia have found the digital distribution model to be significantly more profitable than the traditional retail boxed goods business."

If it really takes off, why would people feel compelled to buy a new console? And thus why would the console manufacturers expend the massive resources needed to develop a new console when their capacity to get return on that investment has been drastically curtailed? best driver software

It may even come close to beating it if they push hard enough. And no one has better commercials than Sony. Especially Microsoft. convert faxes

The more likely scenario (as detailed above) is that the Wii gets replaced and Nintendo starts over with "Wii HD" or whatever; Nintendo has denied it up and down, so we'll just have to wait and see if it happens.

This will be Sony's Halo answer to Halo this year. It may even come close to beating it if they push hard enough. And no one has better commercials than Sony. Especially Microsoft.

Furthermore, Windows 7 supports the mounting of a virtual hard disk (VHD) as a normal data storage, and the bootloader delivered with Windows 7 can boot the Windows system from a VHD, only in the Professional and Ultimate editions however.ecommerce host

It starts on a high note, holds for four hours or so, and then slips irrevocably down a long, slow and totally endless decline. But, the fact remains, those first four hours or so are pretty awesome.identity theft alerts
