OnLive to Finally Start Offering Wi-Fi This Month

Posted September 2, 2010 by James Brightman

OnLive seems to be pretty pleased with the reception the service has gotten since launching in June, but one thing many people have clamored for is to be able to run OnLive through Wi-Fi. Up until now, the only way to access the service has been through a wired broadband connection. That's about to change, thankfully, as OnLive just announced it's starting a Wi-Fi beta program this month (an exact date wasn't provided).

"Wi-Fi support has been the most requested feature among OnLive members, so we made it a top development priority and were able to roll out a Beta version ahead of schedule," said Mike McGarvey, OnLive's COO. "We're continuing to add new features and enhance the service, as well as expand the list of top new release games. We're also pleased to provide outstanding promotions, such as the 50% off game sale and the AT&T Founding Members Program, as the OnLive community continues to grow. Stay tuned for more offerings, new features and great titles."

As McGarvey alluded to, OnLive is promoting games on its service this Labor Day weekend by offering a discount of 50% on all titles. The company also said it's extending its Founding Members Program in partnership with AT&T. "This limited-time and limited availability program for qualified users includes a free 1-year membership to the OnLive Game Service, with an optional second year at $4.95/mo. The Founding Members Program presented by AT&T will be accepting signups through December 31, 2010," OnLive stated. More information on the program is available here.
