OnLive Providing Free 1-Year Memberships

Posted June 1, 2010 by James Brightman

The cloud-based streaming games service OnLive is set to launch in the U.S. on June 17, and it'll cost $14.95 per month for most gamers. Although the company said back at the Game Developers Conference that it would offer its first 25,000 qualified registrants three full months free of OnLive to both buy and rent games, today OnLive has extended this free trial period to one whole year.

These folks will also get a coupon to redeem for a free game. OnLive membership merely grants players access to the service; consumers still need to pay for game purchases or rentals.

OnLive has been on a roll lately, getting investments as it expands in the U.K. and Belgium. Rival streaming games service Gaikai, from industry veteran David Perry, has also been gaining support and recently raised $10 million in capital.
