OnLive Launch Is Going Smoothly, Lego Harry Potter Joins Up

Posted June 30, 2010 by M.H. Williams

OnLive is reporting that the launch of its streaming game service is going swimmingly. They’ve only allowed founding members and early waitlisters to join up so far, but the results have been excellent, according to the company. On the official OnLive blog, founder Steve Perlman said that “the OnLive Game Service has been running 24/7 since launch, with games being played every day, around the clock, from every corner of the 48 States, despite the fact we’ve accommodated far more members at this stage than ever anticipated.”

Outside of continuing bugfixes and network tuning, the company is also working on moving more games out of the beta testing service and out onto public release. The first title is LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and was released to the OnLive public service last night. The game is releasing today in brick-and-mortar stores, with Perlman touting the short exclusive as a benefit of “instant gaming.”

The streaming service is also running a contest for the launch. The first five players to achieve full completion in LEGO Harry Potter will win an Apple iPad, with the next five getting an Apple iPod Touch.

Ten days later, OnLive is doing well for itself. Will it stand the test of time?
