The recently launched OnLive subscription-based gaming service has detailed pricing for its games, and it would also seem as though the previously announced $14.95 a month plan is no longer in effect, according to 1UP.
A new system has been put in place that charges anywhere from $4.99 to $59.99 for unlimited play games. Other game packages will allow for “affordable rental options” as stated by Eurogamer in a full launch line-up article.
The new service will still be mandating a monthly subscription package to users on top of the charge-per-game pricing options. Gamers must remain subscribed to the service in order to access games, even if the game has been paid for. A free one-year subscription is being offered to celebrate the launch, but should the subscription run out, the games would no longer be accessible.
As OnLive bets big around the globe, the industry is keeping an eye on the service to see just how successful the streaming business will be. As the console manufacturers have displayed little worry over the new system and industry types voice their concern over the viability of the service, the success of OnLive remains in the balance.

Onlive has certainly been an interesting story to watch. But I think it will ultimately be a failure since it is much easier to drive the costs of CPU cycles down than it is to drive bandwidth costs down. And it is much easier to make faster processors than it is to deploy faster network connections.
