Posted February 9, 2010 by James Brightman

Hamburg-based online game developer and publisher Bigpoint sent word today that it'll be opening an office in San Francisco on March 1. The U.S. subsidiary will have its own game development studio, business development, marketing and PR, and it'll be overseen by Heiko Hubertz, CEO and founder of Bigpoint, who will live mostly in the U.S. to facilitate the expansion. He'll maintain his role as CEO of Bigpoint in Hamburg by returning to Germany once a month. Hubertz said the U.S. studio will have an "emphasis on creativity."

"The U.S. is one of the most strategically important markets for us," said Hubertz. "Now that we have spent the past several months building up a strong and experienced management team for our Hamburg headquarters, I am going to personally oversee the successful development of the U.S. market in the coming months."

Bigpoint's free-to-play browser-based games attract millions of players and the company has media partners such as SiFi, Wild Tangent and Hi5, along with investment backing from NBC Universal.
