The NPD issued their report for September 2011, and once again sales are down, this time by 6 percent. The month saw $1.16 billion in retail sales compared to $1.23 billion for September 2010.
Hardware and accessories were the largest contributors to the losses, seeing $349 million and $154.8 million in sales. Compared to the sales of $382.9 million and $180.8 million, the drop off was a substantial 9 percent and 14 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, sales of home and portable console software was actually up over September 2010. Boosted by several high profile releases, sales were $630.2 million, up 3 percent from $612.1 million.
Electronics Arts performed remarkably well with their sports titles, taking three out of the top five slots. Dead Island also performed admirably for Deep Silver, finishing third ahead of several notable games.
