NPD: BioShock 2 Drills its Way to Top; Total Game Sales Down 15 Percent

It's so STRANGE not seeing Wii as number one. I ususlly skip pass the top spot because I already know it is Wii, to see how PS3, and Xbox360 are doing. Now xbox360 is number one WORLDWIDE? It seems kinda boring for some reason.
Why is the PSP getting no love? I bought my girlfriend a DS, and I was tempted to buy me one after testing it before the return date came and went. Especially after browsing all of the hardcore JRPG's released for it. But I said no I will get myself a PSP, I love the one big higher resolution screen better than the two DS screens (with touch) for JRPGs. Even though there are not as many rpg's on the psp there are 27 thats more than enough. It just don't understand why it is selling so little? Is it because people go and see the pspgo cost 250, and then see the psp original for 169 and decide to wait until the go comes down? Or is it because they realize they can buy a full sized Wii for $50 less than that price? Asking because the first reason is why I waited but I'm not most people.
But back to consoles, this is about to be a heavyweight fight! Because I know Sony is not going to let Microsoft have the lead all the way up until the launch of Natal, and MOVE (Arc). They will drop the price of the PS3 before E3 as a bomb shell! They will make a valliant attempt at gaining the sales momentum over Microsoft. It's good to be the consumer!

I'm not saying I have any information on a ps3 price drop just a little enthusiastic judging of the situation. I know there are a lot of people that think they are losing money on each system. But if you listen to a actual corporate earnings call you will know it is presented as a net POSITIVE on the bottom line for that quarter! They have two sets of financial news. One for the investor audience and one for the consumer audience. (the investor audience have laws about false reporting of financial gains, and losses). And then there is the international dumping laws that say they cant be sellng at a loss, NONE of the big three!

Yes I have heard of the razor, and blade business model. Where you supposedly sale the razor for a loss, and then sale the razors for profit. And that is the beauty of that business model. Right?! Wrong! But the real beauty of that business model is they can convince people for YEARS that it cost them 4-8$ to make a piece of molded plastic, and that selling it at $4-8 is a loss. It is not a loss. It cost them .1 to 2 cents to make the individual pieces of moded plastic for the razor, and that is if they have a small plant. The beauty is fooling the consumer for YEARS with a sales MODEL PITCH. I can buy a toy with ten times the plastic, ten times the molding complexity for $1, without them telling me they are lossing money.

The 360 coming in at number 1 without a big console exclusive releasing in February was very impressive. The Wii is really far behind when you compare it's year over year numbers. It's nice to see Heavy Rain make the list. And it also looks like the industry will have another overall down year.

Both Nintendo and Sony mentioned supply constraints after the busy holiday. It's a bit more vital for Sony to supply the channel in the short term, since they've got a huge release (God of War III) in March. The next big push for the Wii will come this Summer with Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M.
