At his keynote speech during GDC 2011, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admitted that Nintendo’s downloadable games services haven’t performed as well as the competition. He also promised that the 3DS would be the turning point for the company.
“To date, our WiiWare and DSiWare services have not operated as well as they should have,” said Iwata.
In addition to previously announced networking tech like Street Pass and Spot Pass, Nintendo also announced a deal with AT&T yesterday to provide wi-fi access through over 10,000 hotspots. It’s an excellent start and we’re glad to see Nintendo turning their attention to online.
