A few weeks ago, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that New Super Mario Bros. Wii would be the first game to offer the "demo play" mode. The feature lets players pause the game to enable the CPU to take over gameplay if they need assistance in getting through a more challenging section or level. Nintendo expects this functionality to encourage more players to actually finish games rather than give up in frustration.
Now, according to a Kotaku translation of a Nikkei newspaper article, the "demo play" feature will be offered on certain DS titles in the future as well. The feature is described as being particularly helpful for "high speed action games."
At the moment, no DS titles have been specified, and future Wii titles to offer the feature have not been mentioned either. We're guessing it's not very hard for developers to implement this functionality, however, so it would seem like a good move to incorporate it into as many titles as possible, since Nintendo is continually looking to break down barriers to gaming.
