Nintendo Trademark Hints at Circle Pad Release Outside of Japan

Posted October 25, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Many may have been wondering about Nintendo’s decision to move forward with an add-on peripheral designed to give players a second thumb stick to use within games.  At the time, Nintendo simply announced that Japan would be receiving a device that would attach to the 3DS and allow for dual thumb stick gameplay.  New trademarks now give credence to the idea that other territories could see the add-on as well.

A new trademark has been filed for the ‘Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro,’ one that could help confirm a launch in the U.S. and Europe.  We should see more information soon, as Capcom notes that the pad will be available in time for Resident Evil: Revelations.

There's also speculation that the add-on is simply a pre-cursor to Nintendo relaunching the 3DS with an entirely new design that includes a second analog built-in.
