Nintendo of America has revealed that it's about to cut pricing on its DS handheld lineup. DS hardware sales, although still good, have declined a bit in recent months, and with all the hype surrounding the upcoming 3DS, it seems consumers are already looking towards the next big thing from Nintendo. As such, in order to spark sales of its existing DS hardware, Nintendo is cutting (effective Sept. 12) the MSRP of the DSi to $149.99 and the DSi XL to $169.99 (representing a $20 cut on each). The DS Lite, however, will remain at its current price of $129.99.
"We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems."
Citing NPD data, Nintendo also noted that through the end of July, total Nintendo DS family hardware sales stand at more than 42.3 million in the U.S.

Does this mean the 3DS is on schedule? Or even closer than we think? I think at the least it means 3DS is on schedule.
As far as I am concerned it means good things for everyone. PSP is now under pressure to lower it's price ( pretty please? ).
