In June 2009, Nintendo won a ruling against Guardian Media Technologies where the judge dismissed the patent lawsuit outright. Nintendo wasn't nearly so fortunate today, according to a story by Bloomberg.
Nintendo and Hillcrest Laboratories informed the U.S. International Trade Commission that they have settled the patent-infringement disagreement relating to the Wii Remote's motion sensing controls. If Hillcrest's suit had been successful, it would have prevented Nintendo from selling the Wii console in the U.S. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, though Nintendo denies infringing on Hillcrest's patents.
Nintendo's fended off many of these court cases without settlement, but one had to be serious enough to warrant settlement. Still, these sorts of technology lawsuits are so ubiquitous it becomes hard to take them seriously.
