An interesting concept has come out from Nintendo for the Wii in the form of a patent for a touchpad accessory. While at first glance it might seem like something completely out of left field, it could indicate something far more involved for the Wii.
The device, an attachment that would fit over the Wiimote, would allow stylus controlled gameplay, similar to what is available on the 3DS, DS and eventually on the Wii U tablet controller.
"The amplified beams from the LED bounce off the mirror and are interpreted by the controller as position data," said Siliconera.
Could this mean that Nintendo is already planning on offering support for games that are meant for the Wii U? It makes sense, given the massive installed base of the Wii, and that the Wii U has really only been shown off with the new touchpad controller.
