Nintendo: Fans Will Be 'Surprised' By New Wii Zelda

Posted November 18, 2009 by James Brightman

Although Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime recently stated that the new Zelda for Wii isn't yet committed to a 2010 release, you can bet that the game will at least be featured at next year's E3 in Los Angeles. Nintendo likes to talk about how it still has games for the core audience, and the company knows Zelda factors heavily into that.

Shigeru Miyamoto said back in July that he didn't think the new Zelda would be radically different, but it seems Nintendo may have changed its mindset on the franchise somewhat since that time. Speaking to Official Nintendo Magazine in the U.K., Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma noted that he's looking to surprise players with a new structure for the game.

"It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise," Aonuma told ONM. "So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version."

Although E3 seems far away right now, at least Zelda fans can satiate their Hyrule hunger this December with the DS title Zelda: Spirit Tracks
