Nintendo President Satoru Iwata hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a Nintendo theme park, but he believes that diversification away from other parks is essential to get the plan off the ground.
To even begin construction of a Nintendo theme park, there would have to be something that completely differentiates away from such parks as Disney, which operates a park in Tokyo, Japan.
"Countless times, the idea of a theme park has been debated and discussed, and there have been rumors in various forms," Iwata said. "But at the present moment, there are no concrete plans."
Though Nintendo isn’t developing a theme park at this particular moment, Iwata isn’t denying a park down the road: “I won’t say that it will never happen.”
Nintendo does have some experience with operating a theme park of sorts, in 2005 and 2006, Pokemon the Park operated as a traveling amusement. For the 6 months that the park operated, over 4 million people attended. With Nintendo's incredible roster of characters like Mario, Luigi, Samus, Zelda, Link, Donkey Kong, Kirby and more, there's no doubt that a theme park would be attractive to many youngsters.
