Nintendo’s next big gamble, the Wii U, might be edging further to cutting ties with its big brother, should sources prove correct. Nintendo is reportedly moving to push away from the Wii U designation, in favor of something a bit more akin to what is expected for the launch of an entirely new, next-generation device. The move might even happen before E3 in June.
The change might be due to consumer inability to distinguish between multiple Nintendo brands, mainly brought on by the numerous DS devices offered by the company. With much confusion over the DS, DSi, DSi XL, DS Lite and 3DS, many might see naming the Wii U as part of the previous console as a problem.
Sources tell CVG that the company is in ‘serious discussions’ over changing the name of the console, to hopefully alleviate problems on the consumer side come holiday 2012.
