Nintendo Applies for Patent on 'Massively Single Player' Games, Hints at Wii 3D

A new patent application from Nintendo has many wondering what just might constitute a ‘massively single-player’ game.  Nintendo’s new application has Nintendo seeking the idea of creating a massive world that would completely lack interaction with other human gamers.

The patent application specifically stated, "Those who want to play games that are more dynamic, not-based on Al and not-pre-scripted like multiplayer games, however, don't want to 'deal' with other people, appreciate the privacy it provides."

In short, the patent almost sounds as though gamers would interact with a world that is affected by all players but where none of them are able to interact with one another in real time.

Also interesting in the filing is the mention of Wii 3D.  Nintendo describes a home gaming system that implements 3D capabilities, naming it the Wii 3D, which is interesting, given Nintendo’s stated position on 3D, and how they've sidestepped it altogether with the Wii U.
