Nintendo 3DS to Feature Graphics 'Close' to PS3, 360?

Posted June 7, 2010 by James Brightman

Not much is really known about Nintendo's upcoming 3DS handheld device, but we'll no doubt find out much more at Nintendo's E3 conference next week. President Satoru Iwata has said that the portable will offer much more robust anti-piracy features while Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has likened the 3DS to the evolution from GBA to DS.

But just how powerful will this 3D handheld actually be? According to a new report on IGN, several developers have indicated that not only will 3DS "well surpass the Nintendo DS in visual and processor capabilities," but it will supposedly feature "processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and... are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."

We'd suggest taking this one with a hefty grain of salt. We have no doubt that 3DS will be more powerful than DS, but saying that it practically matches Xbox 360 smells a bit fishy. This is likely some enthusiastic hyperbole from an excited developer.

LOL, I'd take it with a grain of salt also. But it has to be powerful to do 3d. And you need significantly less power to make graphics look good on a small screen than on a large HDTV screen. But look at PSP it looks great not as powerful as they said it would be but it still looks very good. Look at Iphone (3) it looks great! I imagine it will be more powerful than iphone3 and needs to be to power 3d. So I'm excited.
