According to brand-new research conducted by The Nielsen Company, Americans now spend 10% of their online time playing online games. This puts online gaming in second, right behind social networking with 22% of time spent. Online gamers burn 407 million hours of playtime a month, while social networking fans use a whopping 906 million hours of playtime.
“Despite the almost unlimited nature of what you can do on the web, 40 per cent of US online time is spent on just three activities – social networking, playing games and emailing leaving a whole lot of other sectors fighting for a declining share of the online pie,” said Nielsen analyst Dave Martin.
