NHL 12 Sells 451K, Sets Franchise Record

Posted September 20, 2011 by Ben Strauss

NHL 12 has rather impressive numbers to post for the first week of sales.  The game was able to pack in a total of 451,000 unit sold, resulting in over $27 million in revenues.  The total number of sales is up 19 percent from last year’s launch of NHL 11

“The fan response to NHL 12 has been incredible, and we’re delighted to expand the franchise to Facebook next month,” said Andrew Wilson, executive vice president, EA SPORTS. “NHL 12 is our most exciting hockey game ever, with more than 300 gameplay improvements and the ability to play with some of the NHL’s greatest legends.”

To put some numbers into perspective, a total of 6.9 million online games have been played, with enough games to completely encompass 70 full NHL seasons every single day.

To celebrate the numbers, EA Sports has announced that they will be giving free-to-play a whirl with NHL Superstars.  The new title will be a social game played via Facebook.  Fans of the franchise can expect the game to be released in early October.
