New Super Mario Bros. Wii Passes 2 Million Sold

Posted December 11, 2009 by James Brightman

New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the third best selling video game SKU in the U.S. for the month of November, selling 1.39 million units. However, Nintendo of America pointed out today that if you include sales data for the new Mario title from beyond the NPD cutoff date, the game has actually sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. The game is doing quite well in Japan too, where it sold close to 1 million copies in its first week on sale.

Of course, 2 million in the U.S. seems weak compared to Modern Warfare 2's 6+ million sold across Xbox 360 and PS3, but it's a very solid start for a game that's likely to have strong legs. Nintendo games don't usually adhere to the typical sales curve of a big launch followed by a decline in the months following. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is just getting started and should exceed 15 million worldwide, according to EEDAR.
