New Super Mario Bros Wii Continues To Stomp The Competition

Posted July 14, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Titles for Nintendo’s Wii and DS system continue to own the market in Japan. New Super Mario Bros Wii is the ongoing sales leader for 2010, despite actually being released 2009, according to Famitsu data [thanks 1UP]. The game has sold 1,401,895 copies in this year alone, and broke 3 million copies sold after only seven weeks on the market. It also pushed more hardware, with 700,000 Wiis sold during its launch month of December.

The rest of the chart is populated by sequels and proven franchises, with Namco Bandai’s God Eater being the only non-sequel that came out this year. The title placed ninth on the charts with 605,316 units sold.

Classic franchise entries included Dragon Quest VI, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Yakuza 4 and Monster Hunter Freedom. The other interesting non-sequel was Nintendo’s Tomodachi Collection, which was released last year to great sales in Japan. The game cleared 1 million copies in Japan for the first half of 2010.

The rest of the chart follows:
