In a small interview with CVG, Bungie community director Brian Jarrard said the company has "planned, engineered and designed" their new franchise to appear on new Xbox and the PlayStation 4.
"I don't know if developers aren't 'ready' to kick off a new generation of hardware, but not knowing exactly when that shift will happen is definitely challenging as you begin mapping out a future title," said Jarrard. "Our next project after Reach has to be planned, engineered and designed to potentially span multiple hardware generations considering we are working on a decade's worth of storytelling and game experiences."
He mentioned that Halo: Reach was the culmination of everything Bungie had learned about the Xbox 360 and pushed the system to its limit.
"Look at the difference between Reach and Halo 3 - the hardware hasn't changed at all; our team just found better and more efficient ways to accomplish things,” he added. "The sheer technical limits may be nearly tapped but that isn't to say that great, innovative game experiences aren't still on the way for this generation of consoles. Technology and horsepower will always only be part of the formula for building a fun, entertaining, lasting game title."

Reach really doesn't look like its pushing anything to the limit. This is coming from a Halo fan.

Reach actually looks really nice. You can tell that Bungie put in a ton of work on it and it should be a phenomenal title.

Looking forward to next-gen consoles, been a long time coming so hopefully 2012. Reach definitely looks better then all the previous games. Would have been nice if they did the graphic improvements for ODST which looked pretty bad and in dialog scenes the character faces looked like 2000-2001 graphics, was just horrible. I can't understand how IGN gave the game a 9.1/10, I don't play online on consoles so maybe the multiplayer justified a higher score. I have a PS3/360 but I'm a hardcore PC gamer at heart and have higher standards, didn't quite see the mass appeal in Halo tho I've played them all once but I really liked Halo Wars, first RTS that actually worked great on a console control wise and beautiful CGI cinematic cutscenes, would really like to see them make another RTS.

Reach looks much better than the engine used for Halo 3/ODST, but people's expectations for the franchise (and what can be done on the Xbox 360) are pretty high, so even with the improvements it might not live up to what people think it could be.

Also, Malice, Halo Wars was developed by Ensemble Studios which has been disbanded. Unless Robot Entertainment (which is sort of the successor to Ensemble) is working on a sequel right now (they are making an RTS published by Microsoft), I wouldn't expect anything more from the franchise.
