While some have wondered whether a PS4 would be announced (and released) as early as this year, executive deputy president of Sony Corp. Kazuo Hirai has shot down those rumors. Also at CES 2012, the executive poured water on any theories that there might not be a traditional, physical next-gen console and that Sony would go completely online.
“It’s very important that we continue to have a dedicated home-based console,” Hirai said to Bloomberg. “Relying solely on networks to deliver content is unfortunately just not possible. It’s still very difficult to have consumers download 50 gigabytes of data or more.”
