Netflix Sees Half of All Users on Consoles, Says Nielsen

Posted July 28, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The major players in the streaming video services, Netflix and Hulu, are increasingly seeing users log in from consoles, it has been found out.  A new report from Nielsen shows the growing trend for online video streaming services on the consoles has reached half of all those logging in.

“The majority of Netflix users report watching on a TV screen. In fact, half of all Netflix users connect via a game console (Wii, PS3 or Xbox Live),” the report said.

Breaking the numbers down, Netflix has the Wii taking a full 25% of all viewers.  Trailing behind the Wii are the PS3 and Xbox 360 systems, representing 13% and 12%, respectively.

Hulu on the other hand remains firmly on the computer for most users.  The Wii, PS3 and 360 combined only represent a total of 8%.
