NCSoft Sales Remain Flat, Company Blames Promotions

Posted May 18, 2011 by M.H. Williams

NCSoft has released its earnings report for the fiscal first quarter ending on March 31, 2011.  Sales came to KRW155.3 billion ($142.9 million), down 2 percent versus the previous quarter, and down 7 percent year-over-year.  The company’s net income was up 33 percent over the previous quarter and down 30 percent over the previous year, standing at KRW40.8 billion ($37.5 million).  According to NCSoft, “revenues remained flat due to small-scaled sales promotions in Lineage and Aion.”

Korea remains the company’s primary region and driver of game sales, with 65 percent of the total revenue (KRW101.3 billion/$93.1 million) sold in that market alone.  Japan took the number two spot with KRW20.2 billion ($18.5 million) in revenue.  North America, Europe, and Taiwan trail behind with KRW7.1 billion ($6.5 million), KRW5.5 billion ($5.05 million), and KRW5.3 billion ($4.9 million) respectively.

Aion is NCSoft’s clear sales leader with a haul of KRW61.4 billion ($56.5 million) for the quarter, accounting for 44 percent of total sales.  Lineage and Lineage II retain near parity with KRW38.5 billion ($35.4 million) and KRW30.8 billion ($28.3 million) respectively.  City of Heroes limps past with KRW3 billion ($2.8 million) and Guild Wars follows after with KRW2.3 billion ($2.1 million).
