NASCAR Veteran Joins Eutechnyx as Studio Looks to Expand

Posted March 4, 2010 by James Brightman

Who knew that driving endlessly in circles could be so much fun?

U.K. indie developer Eutechnyx, which has worked on big licences like Ferrari, James Bond 007 and Formula One, has revealed to IndustryGamers that it's hired Ed Martin as Executive Vice President, North America, "as it continues its ambitious expansion drive." This is potentially a big hire, as Martin previously oversaw the NASCAR franchise at EA Sports as a director for four years. EA announced its intent to give up on the NASCAR franchise last year, so whoever signs the license could now tap the talented folks at Eutechnyx to leverage their expertise and Martin's NASCAR experience.

We followed up with Eutechnyx about this scenario but received a "no comment," followed by "Eutechnyx's next big project will be revealed in May 2010."

“When it comes to American racing games, Ed Martin is the man,” says Darren Jobling, COO of Eutechnyx. “His experience and enthusiasm for the sport of competitive racing are absolutely second-to-none, and he’s going to be an invaluable asset to Eutechnyx as we enter into our most exciting year yet.”

"The passion and independence of Eutechnyx are incredibly exciting and certainly unique in the gaming world today,” said Martin. “But this is the heritage of every great gaming company out there, and to me, the core of producing great games and being a great company.  I'm thrilled to become part of that team in what will no doubt be a defining year in our history."

In addition to EA Sports, in the past Martin was Executive Producer at Hasbro Interactive, where he built a $30 million business across six critically-acclaimed number-one-selling games. Prior to that he worked at Papyrus, a notable developer of PC auto racing simulations.
