Multimedia company Namco Bandai has announced its consolidated earnings for the first half of fiscal year 2012. Overall the company reported net sales of ¥194.2 billion ($2.49 billion), an 11.9 percent gain over the same period in the previous year. Namco Bandai actually pulled out a net income of ¥8.03 billion ($102.8 million) for the first half, versus a net loss of ¥1.93 billion ($24.7 million) in fiscal year 2011.
The Content division of the company, which includes its home software and arcade business, sold a total of ¥86.7 billion ($1.11 billion), up 21.4 percent year-over-year. The division also dug itself out of a hole in operating income, rising to ¥5.4 billion ($68.8 million) after a loss of ¥2.6 billion ($33.3 million) recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Japan received the lion’s share of the company’s home software efforts, receiving all 28 titles Namco Bandai produced during the quarter for 4 million units sold. The U.S. received 13 titles with 1.9 million units sold; Europe saw 12 titles with 1.1 million units sold; and Asia brought up the rear with 18 titles, but only 177,000 units sold.
Tales of Xillia for PS3 led game software with 740,000 units sold. Pop band title AKB1/48 2 for PSP sold 380,000 units, Taiko Drum Master Portable DX for PSP sold 220,000 units, and One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP for 3DS sold 210,000 units.
The PSP turned out to be Namco Bandai’s strongest platform with 1.9 million units sold, followed by 1.78 million on PS3, 1.1 million on DS, 976,000 on 360, 712,000 on 3DS, and 565,000 on Wii.
