n-Space, the developer behind several big name titles for the Nintendo DS, has confirmed to Kotaku that it has laid off 25% of the approximate 100 staff. n-Space cited the need for “momentary reduced demand” in the workplace, even though it has six titles lined up for 2010.
The studio is best known for working with DS titles of some of the biggest franchises in the industry. Games developed include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops and GoldenEye 007. n-Space has also developed for the Wii with Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 and Tron Evolution.
Though 25% of the staff has been dropped, the studio has a busy year ahead. Titles include Toy Story 3 for the DS. "A lot of good people got caught up in bad timing, despite unbelievable results from my entire team," says n-Space CEO Dan O'Leary. "But we've got lots of great things ahead."
O’Leary stated that the cutbacks at n-Space were an unfortunate result of “wrapping up a bunch of titles simultaneously” and still unannounced projects being delayed.
