Motion Controls Tied to Grand Slam Tennis Release on Xbox 360/PS3

Recently, EA Sports President Peter Moore indicated that Grand Slam Tennis would be delayed on the PS3 and Xbox 360 because of the EA Sports Active expansion that was in development. Today, Moore went into more detail with VG247 over the move, indicating that the release of the game actually hinges on the respective launches of the new motion controllers for PS3 and Xbox 360.

“You will [see the game with] the new motion technologies,” said Moore. “One thing that became glaringly obvious is that once you started playing Wii MotionPlus tennis and then you go back to [traditional controllers].”

“It’s two things," he added about the delay to Tennis. "Active is such a powerful platform that we have to bring in resources to take advantage of that and get more stuff coming down the pipe. Secondly we’ve decided just to wait for Natal and for the Sony motion controller to come out.”

The sport of tennis is a natural extension of the capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus as is golf, so it wouldn't surprise us if this year's versions of Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 on Wii completely changes the way EA Sports handles those franchises going forward on all consoles.
