The reboot to the Mortal Kombat franchise was instantly taken in by new and old fans of the series at launch in April. New info direct from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment boss Martin Tremblay indicates that the game has been doing exceptionally well in sales, skirting close to 3 million units sold.
Speaking with MCV, Tremblay says that Mortal Kombat has sold “close to” 3 million units and that Warner Bros. is more than paid up for their acquisition of former publisher Midway. Midway was purchased by Warner Bros. for a total of $49 million back in 2009.
“We are very pleased with the success of Mortal Kombat so far,” he noted. "With the launch of Mortal Kombat, we have already paid for the acquisition of the Midway assets, and we are just beginning to leverage this acquisition with much more to come.”
Mortal Kombat took the number 2 sales position for the month of April, bested only by Valve’s Portal 2. Mortal Kombat was developed by NetherRealm Studios.
