With Midway's future up in the air, questions have remained what the team behind the Mortal Kombat franchise have been up to. Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, has cheerfully shed some light on the various doings of the Mortal Kombat team on his Twitter page.
While some have wondered if some extra characters or other DLC for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was in the works, Boon responded negatively to such a query. "I wouldn't hold my breath," he stated. "The game has been out for a long time."
Boon indicates that the team is working on the next game in the series, tentatively called MK9. He notes that the game will not feature any superheroes. Boon's comments about the motion capture for fatalities imply that they will be very violent. "People want an M-rated MK....dammit we will give them an M-rated MK," he noted.
While we know that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe did pretty well, it was weird to see how relatively bloodless it was in action. From the sound of it, the next Mortal Kombat should sate fans' bloodlust. We're just wondering who the publisher will be when the game is finally ready.

About time. Finally, a MK game that has blood and gore and M-rated goodness! I was very dissapointed in playing the last one. This is good news indeed.

After MK vs DC, I don't think MK has much relevance left.

MK vs DC was a really good game. While it was unfortunate that DC wouldn't let their heroes be involved in an M rated game, the gameplay itself was the best in an MK game yet. I just hope they don't forgo the gameplay to jam a bunch of needless gore into it.
