Capcom has gotten used to the Monster Hunter franchise doing well, and the latest release has definitely not disappointed. Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Freedom 3 has shipped a total of 4 million units since its launch on December 1. In total, the franchise has hit 17 million units sold.
With a stunning 4 million in one month, Capcom now claims that the title is the “fastest selling title in PSP history,” and yet the game has only been released in Japan. Capcom earlier announced that the title saw 2 million sold in week 1, and later stated that 3 million had been sold in three weeks.
As sales figures show promising numbers, Capcom now expects the PSP game to be one of the top titles of the fiscal year, which ends in March. Capcom has stated that their fiscal outlook and continued sales looked “favorable.”
Impressive as these sales figures might be, the bulk of sales usually occur in Japan. Western audiences have yet to embrace the series with as much gusto as the Japanese market, though the earlier release of Monster Hunter Tri was well received by critics and consumers alike. Monster Hunter Freedom 3, though, has no stated plans to be released to Western audiences in the U.S. or Europe at this time.
