Modern Warfare 2's 'Stimulus Pack' Shatters Xbox Live Sales Record

Posted April 7, 2010 by James Brightman

DFC Intelligence recently wrote a column for IndustryGamers, explaining the impact of Activision's "Stimulus Pack" on  Modern Warfare 2's usage. DFC also predicted that the DLC would sell in the multi-millions pretty quickly. Indeed, today Activision sent word that this new map pack sold over 1 million copies on Xbox Live within the first 24 hours, setting a new Xbox Live sales record. Within the first week, the DLC had sold over 2.5 million copies.

Activision also noted Xbox Live is "the largest Call of Duty community of any entertainment system." Modern Warfare 2 players have spent more than 1.75 billion hours of gameplay time on Xbox Live since the game launched last November. If you enjoy playing with numbers, Activision also pointed out that that's equivalent to over 200,000 years of gameplay.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling recently said that the stimulus pack DLC would extend Modern Warfare 2's gameplay time quite a bit. It looks like he was right.

I have become very obsessed with the multiplayer portion of this game lately but I haven't downloaded the stimulus map pack and don't plan on doing so anytime soon. As long as they keep it seperate from the other game modes I'll be ok.
