Microsoft Responds to 54 Percent Xbox 360 Failure Rate Claim

Recently, a survey of around 5,000 Game Informer readers showed an Xbox 360 failure rate of nearly 55 percent. While the failure rate of Xbox 360s was always suspected to be high, the survey (however credible it might be) immediately lighted a firestorm of reaction on the Internet. TG Daily [thanks Kotaku] got a response from Microsoft about the issue.

"Microsoft stands behind the Xbox 360 as a superior entertainment console with one of the best warranties in the industry," stated a Microsoft spokesperson. "We are constantly improving the design, manufacture and performance of the console through extensive testing of potential sources of any problems. Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of 'most played console' and the vast majority of Xbox 360 customers have enjoyed a terrific gaming and entertainment experience since their first day, and continue to, day in and day out."

As usual, Microsoft remains evasive about the true rate of failure about the Xbox 360, choosing to deflect the question towards the entertainment capabilities and the warranty for the system. Other intresting stats from the survey: while less than 38 percent thought that Microsoft customer service was very helpful, only about 4 percent said they would never buy another Xbox 360 due to hardware failure.
