Metal Gear for 'Next-Generation' Confirmed

Posted January 13, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Though Hideo Kojima has stated time and time again that he was forever finished with the venerated Metal Gear franchise, it seems that this is not the case with several new job listings posted by Kojima Productions specifically relating to a “Next Generation Metal Gear Solid Series.”

The listing, which appears on Konami’s Japanese website, is not perfectly clear. It could mean that the stealth action series will be making an appearance on the next iteration of the PlayStation, and perhaps even the PC and Xbox. Specifically requested are those with experience on the “PC/PS3/Xbox360.” However, “Next Generation” could conceivably also just refer to a new graphical engine or just a new step forward in the franchise.

The last entry in the series on a console was a major contender for Game of the Year 2008; Metal Gear Solid 4 was sold as the final chapter in the saga of Solid Snake. Kojima is currently working on the PS3/Xbox 360 title focusing on Raiden called Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which will take place between the events of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

As for Metal Gear Solid 5, Kojima mentioned that his next title would either have to be an original game or MGS5. After meeting with his core production staff in October, the ball is definitely rolling. “Had our first meeting for the next 'A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME' with the core team members today,” Kojima tweeted.

“Some members are also participating on 'RISING' so 10 people total this time. We will have a meeting every morning to discuss planning, testing, research, and scouting. An open environment to talk about important issues and share our dreams and concept for the project."
