Metal Gear Creator's 'Project Ogre' Is Open-World

Posted December 21, 2011 by M.H. Williams

With Platinum Games working full swing on Metal Gear Rising, Kojima Production is deep into planning ‘Project Ogre’, Kojima’s next big game.  While previous Metal Gear games were very linear affairs, Kojima has told CNN that Project Ogre will be an open-world game.

"The kind of game I'm making is some game that has a very wide entrance, a very open entrance," Kojima said. "Rather than making something very cinematic, [I plan to] make something very free."

Kojima promises players an open expanse that they can explore with as many as 100 hours of gameplay.  Project Ogre’s tone will be more “subdued” than Metal Gear, but the game will not be completed for some time now.

The creator, who is an absolute Twitter fiend, has been posting screenshots related to his studio’s new Fox Engine, which Project Ogre will be built in.  One of his first screenshots showed a soldier sneaking next to a tank in some desert area.

His most recent Fox Engine update shows off avatar creation based on real people.
