The shooter market remains incredibly competitive and it's going to be quite crowded this fall when games like Crysis 2, Halo: Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops are all released. EA has been looking to overtake its main rival in the shooter genre for a while, and today the company announced that its new Medal of Honor game will take the first shot, launching on October 12 (nearly a month in advance of Black Ops). The date was revealed in a debut trailer for the game, viewable at medalofhonor.com.
Similar to Activision's Modern Warfare titles, Medal of Honor will now be set in a modern day war environment - specifically war-torn Afghanistan. The EALA team is focused on "portraying the poignant experiences of today’s soldier."
“Medal of Honor is an authentic look into today’s war. Inspired by real people and real events, the game puts players in the boots of today’s warrior -- from the infantry ground pounder to the Tier 1 Operator,” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer of Medal of Honor. “We are proud of this piece because it offers a glimpse into the game we’re creating, while also showing the mindset of these warriors.”
IndustryGamers recently spoke with Goodrich and the rest of the team about making Medal of Honor relevant again.

It's a good thing that Respawn and Bungie won't be launching their new IP's this fall(although I don't think Bungie announced a date yet) because this holiday season will be loaded already with enough shooters. And of course I'll be buying most of them. My wallet will hate me come early next year.
