The Hollywood Reporter is saying that a Mass Effect film is definitely in our future. Legendary Pictures has picked up the rights to BioWare’s sci-fi franchise. Mark Protosevich, the writer of The Cell, I Am Legend, and Marvel’s upcoming Thor, has been tapped by Legendary to script the film. Ex-Marvel producer Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad are listed as producers, in addition to Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
Tull says Mass Effect was perfect for an adaptation, noting it contained “depth, compelling characters and an engaging back story.” Arad said the franchise was “a parable whose conflicts mirror the ones we currently face in our own world. This story emphasizes the need for all cultures to learn to work together.”
Mass Effect joins the growing list of Legendary’s game-to-movie projects, including World of Warcraft and Gears of War. Avi Arad’s own production studio, Arad Productions, is also developing an adaption of Uncharted for the big screen.
