Mass Effect Series to See Something 'Far Reaching' in 2011

Posted February 8, 2010 by James Brightman

Along with its holiday fiscal results, EA today revealed a partial list of upcoming games for fiscal 2011. One game that was left off the list but was casually mentioned by COO John Schappert on the EA conference call is "something far-reaching from Mass Effect," expected for Winter 2011. It's unclear what EA means by this. We doubt BioWare can produce a full sequel by then, so perhaps it's some robust episodic DLC to further expand the Mass Effect universe.

Nevertheless, EA knows it has a good thing with Mass Effect and BioWare in general. Mass Effect 2 quickly shipped 2 million copies in its first week, and was showered with praise, making it the second highest rated Xbox 360 game ever. The property is also seeing much interest from Hollywood, and is practically crying out to be made into a major motion picture. The acquisition of BioWare was probably one of the best moves that EA has ever made.

I think BioWare needs to successfully tackle their Star Wars Old Republic MMO first, but you never know.
