Today, Steam, Direct2Drive and Impulse all released their digital sales results for the past week [thanks Shacknews], and the Mass Effect series was very popular. Science fiction titles proved to be a big draw in general, monopolizing many of the top slots.
On Steam (which tracks sales based on revenue, not baseline unit sales) Mass Effect 2 was in second place, followed by the Digital Deluxe Edition in fourth and the original Mass Effect in seventh. The Digital Deluxe Edition took the top slot on Direct2Drive while the regular version of the game was in third place; pre-orders for the regular and DDE of Star Trek Online were fourth and second place respectively.
Impulse had science fiction games from top to bottom. While Mass Effect 2 and its DDE took eighth and sixth place, Sins of a Solar Empire and its expansions were in first, third, and fifth place, and Gratuitous Space Battles came in second, Armada 2526 in fourth, Light of Altair in seventh, Sword of the Stars Ultimate in ninth and Star Trek Online pre-orders in tenth place.
EA recently announced that Mass Effect 2 sold-in to retailers 2 million copies of the game. Obviously, that does not include any sales on digital platforms, as outlined above.
