Marvelous Entertainment, responsible for No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise, has posted a profit for the quarter ended June 30. Despite reporting a loss of 131 million yen last year ($1.5 million), the company bounced back and made 71 million yen ($829,000) during this quarter. Sales, however, were down sharply by 55% compared to the same period.
The company’s stated strategy to slow down the development of games seems to have paid off. Marvelous only released three games in Japan. Rising Star Games also signed a licensing agreement with Marvelous, which helped add to the earnings statement.
Marvelous was able to reduce overhead and advertising costs, which helped the Japanese company with its positive earnings report. Profits mainly came from expense cuts, helping the company to get back in the black after a long period of red.
