Mario Kart Hits 420K Sold in Japan, More International Sales, Says Nintendo

Posted December 6, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The 3DS could possibly be making a comeback thanks to a strong holiday sales lineup, and Mario Kart 7 is among those making strides.  Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has revealed that the game is off to a strong start.  Over 420,000 units have been sold in Japan, with Iwata making it very clear that international sales have been even better.

While the 3DS is enjoying the launch of multiple big-name titles, Mario Kart 7 has pushed past its predecessor in strides, almost doubling first week sales against Mario Kart DS.  Iwata also revealed that Nintendo believes the 3DS is set on passing the 4 million mark by the end of the console’s first year of sales.
