Major League Gaming, the biggest professional video game league in the world, just recruited some top executive talent. Ralph Rivera has been appointed president of online for the company and will lead digital strategy and online product development for the "fast-growing sport."
"MLG is at an exciting inflection point," said Rivera. "I'm honored that the company has brought me on to help manage its rapid global growth, as well as to continue to innovate around how MLG Nation experiences the world's only digital sport."
"Having worked closely with Ralph over the years, I know he understands the unique demands of a business that sits at the intersection of sports and video games," said Matthew Bromberg, president and CEO of Major League Gaming. "We are changing the face of sports media and Ralph is a great addition to the senior team."
Rivera was previously at AOL for the last six years, where he was in charge of both AOL Games (this editor's previous employer) and AOL Latino; he also oversaw expansion of AOL's content sites internationally. It's unclear why Rivera would leave AOL, but it's no secret that AOL's been struggling through its transition. AOL Games certainly faces that pressure, and Rivera may have just wanted out.
